When a bright idea evolved into an opportunity to start a small business, in 2019 we setup shop in Yeovil, Somerset. With not much more than a Colchester Student (Lathe), an AEW Manual (Milling Machine) and an Elliot 10M (shaper), our strategy to conquer the world and ‘retire early’ through the manufacture and supply of replacement Jaws for British made Vice was on the rails… 

Here we are in our first industrial unit, only 680sq/ft which felt like all the space we’d ever need. 

However, the reality of business soon hit home. Like most new businesses, the overheads involved in UK manufacturing sent our overheads through the roof… professional fees, insurances, to name a couple.  Then COVID hit and more recently, the war in Ukraine which almost put a premature end to our ambitions as business owners  

However. With the profits of our hard work we invested in new machinery and began to expand our portfolio.   Being an Engineer and having an experienced CNC Machinist in our employment, it was a natural decision to move into Precision Engineering.

Heres a few images of our current machinery in use, plus a few example parts we’ve churned out.

Together, these CNC and Manual machines allow us to offer a broad range of services in the Turning, Milling and Sliding Head space.

Today, we still manufacture and sell replacement Vice Jaws and Spares for every Vice ever made and also supply fully refurbished Vice.   These are all available in our ViceWorks tab, being a trading name of Wilkes Engineering & Machinery Ltd.

In addition to our Vice Spares products, Wilkes Engineering & Machinery Ltd now undertake Sub-Contract Engineering and Machining services for a variety of customers across industries.
